27/01/2016 - Oriol Paulo’s new suspense film, now in post-production, brings together these two top-drawer actors, next to the more seasoned José Coronado and Ana Wagener

Oriol Paulo (Barcelona, 1975) is very keen on warped, surprising and atmospheric stories, where a plot twist or hidden piece of information turn the viewer’s expectations on their head, with the ultimate aim being to guide the movie towards an unexpected dénouement. film profile] (lit. “Setback”), in which he is working with actor José Coronado once more. This seasoned performer is flanked by the ubiquitous Bárbara Lennie (she has been taking part in a seemingly never-ending string of shoots; read more), Mario Casas, Ana Wagener, Francesc Orella, Paco Tous, David Selvas and Íñigo Gastesi.

Currently in the middle of the editing phase, the screenplay for Contratiempo – written by Paulo himself, drawing inspiration from literary masters such as Edgar Allan Poe, Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie, and bolstered by a strong psychological element – recounts the story of a successful businessman, Adrián Doria (Casas), who has struck up a relationship with a fashion photographer (Lennie) and is accused of a crime he pleads not guilty to. While he is finishing off his defence with Virginia Goodman (Wagener), a witness coach par excellence, the appearance of an unexpected witness for the prosecution, a man hailing from the mountains (Coronado), will force them to reconsider their defence strategy in a race against time.

With a budget of almost five million euros, this legal thriller in the style of David Fincher, shot late last year in the Basque Country and Catalonia, was produced by Think Studio, Atresmedia Cine, Colosé Producciones and La Habitación Cerrada A.I.E., in conjunction with Nostromo Pictures, in collaboration with Movistar Plus+, Televisió de Catalunya and with the support of the Spanish Institute of Film and Audiovisual Arts and the ICEC.

Its international sales will be handled by Catalan company Film Factory Entertainment.
