Very freely adapted by Aurélia Georges and Maud Ameline from the novel The New Magdalen by British writer Wilkie Collins, the script centres on Nélie, who escaped a miserable existence by becoming a nurse on the front in 1914. One day, she takes on the identity of Rose, a well-to-do young woman who died under her eyes. Nélie, pretending to be the dead woman, visits Madame de Lengwil (Azéma), an extremely rich woman she begins to work as a reader for. The lie works a charm, exceeding her expectations. Nélie does not only find a roof over her head, but also what she has been missing her entire life: love. But one day, the dead woman resurfaces…

Produced by Emmanuel Barraux got 31 Juin Films, Secret Name is co-produced by Arte France Cinéma. After beginning on 22 October in Nancy, filming continues in Alsace and will end in the Vosges. French distribution and international sales are handled by Pyramide.
