The Deauville Green Awards launches its call for films

Documentaries, awareness-raising spots and corporate films that focus on subjects such as sustainable development, environmentally friendly innovations, health and social responsibility are becoming ever more important in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the team behind the Deauville Green Awards has decided to press on with organising this event, which is so essential for the profession. The ninth edition of the Deauville Green Awards film festival will therefore take place 100% online on 17 and 18 June.

Until 15 May, filmmakers can submit their documentaries, spots and corporate films to three competitions and their 14 thematic categories. The array of themes ranges from “fight and adaptation to climate change” and “the preservation of biodiversity” to “the energy transition”, “transport and eco-mobility”, “eco-tourism and responsible travel”, and “sustainable production and the circular economy”, as well as “responsible consumption and eco-labels”. The "societal issues" sub-category includes “quality of life”, “organisations and social responsibility”, “disability, diversity and solidarity”, “innovations and technological leaps”, and “demographic transition”.

Owing to the current challenges, the festival team has decided to replace the cinema screenings in Deauville with an online event, a move which is strongly in keeping with the festival's DNA since its creation in 2012, as it uses the motto: “Let's reinvent ourselves!” The approach is to promote audiovisual creation in order to initiate a large-scale mobilisation. NGOs, students and independent filmmakers as well as all small businesses will receive a non-profit discount when applying with their films for the Golden Green Awards.

The 2020 international jury, which includes environmental, audiovisual and communication professionals, journalists, and representatives of companies, prestigious institutions and recognised NGOs, is working with an online exchange system, provided by long-time festival partner Opsomai. Besides the showcase of the award-winning films, the festival team is also developing several solutions so that the ninth Deauville Green Awards film festival can also provide online workshops and seminars on 17 and 18 June.
