Telecinco presents trailer for Amenábar’s upcoming film

Yesterday saw the unveiling of the first trailer for the film, which will be released in theatres in the autumn. Paolo Vasile – director of the film’s production company Telecinco – described it as “a magnificent film, which tells a great story with grandeur".

Agora (see news) – Amenábar’s second English-language feature after The Others – is produced by Telecinco Cinema (88% investment) in collaboration with Mod Producciones and Himenóptero. Rachel Weisz and Max Minghella head the cast.

Telecinco Cinema also took advantage of the occasion to give an overview of its forthcoming projects and look back at its success in recent years. Thanks to titles such as The Orphanage [+see also:

, the company is now “on a par with Warner Bros, Sony Pictures and Disney", according to co-director Ghislain Barrois. In 2008, Telecinco Cinema’s market share in Spain stood at 28% with only 10 releases.

Telecinco backs new talents who are capable of making quality films that appeal to mainstream audiences. In line with this aim, two films by new directors will be released this year: Oskar SantosEl mal ajeno (“The Suffering of Others”) and Gabe Ibáñez’s Hierro (“Iron”).

Moreover, Telecinco is handling production for projects by directors including Javier Ruiz, who started shooting on February 23 on Spanish Movie, the first satirical comedy produced in Spain; Eugenio Vieira, who will direct a baroque thriller entitled Agnosia; Eduardo Chapero Jackson, who represented Spain in this year’s race for the Best Short Film Oscar; and Nacho Vigalondo, director of Timecrimes [+see also:
