Shooting kicks off in Paris today of Olivier Panchot’s debut feature Sans moi (lit. "Without Me"), starring Yaël Abecassis (Live and Become [+see also:

) and Clémence Poesy (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). The film, a screen adaptation of the successful eponymous novel by Marie Desplechin (published in 1999) by the director together with Gladys Marciano, will depict the strange friendship that develops between two women.

Anna (Yaël Abecassis), a young thirty-something mother who has just separated from her husband works as a journalist at a communication company. In order to raise her children on her own she has to work longer hours. As Thierry (Eric Ruff), her indecisive lover, doesn’t help Anna in overcoming her fear of the future, to make her life easier, she decides to hire Lise (Clémence Poesy), a complete stranger, as a babysitter. But the young woman, brought up by social services and a real girl of the streets, turns out to be into drugs and risky meetings. Yet, full of energy and kindness, she takes wonderful care of the children and in the end it is Lise who has to take care of Anna when she starts to fall into depression.

Produced by Marie Masmonteil and Denis Carot for Elzevir Films, the €3.5m budget Sans moi received an advance on receipts from the Centre National de la Cinématographie (CNC) of €450,000. The seven weeks of shooting will all take place in the Paris region and will finish on August 9. Haut et Court will handle the film’s distribution in France in 2007.
