film profile] (almost €4m in two weeks), production company Filmax continues its frenetic activity this autumn, with three film shoots currently underway.

These include Animales Domésticos (“Pets”), the debut directorial outing by DoP Xavi Giménez (who worked with Alejandro Amenábar on Agora [+see also:
trailer
film profile], Juan Carlos Fresnadillo on Intact and Jaume Balagueró on The Nameless). Written by Pere Saballs, the story focuses on a rebellious teenage boy who is sent to a rehabilitation centre whose treatment method is unbelievably cruel and inhuman.

The film’s seven-week shoot kicked off on September 28 and is taking place in Barcelona.

Meanwhile, shooting started on September 29 on Emilio Estévez’s English-language film The Way, which is set on the Santiago Way and stars the director and his father, Martin Sheen. Filming is expected to wrap up in mid-November.

Penned by Estévez, the film tells the story of Tom Avery, a renowned Californian ophthalmologist who finds out that his son Daniel died whilst setting off on the Santiago Way and decides to complete it for him.

The third production, whose working title is Exorcismus, belongs unmistakably to the horror genre and explores the subject of satanic possessions in a realist style. Directed by Manuel Carballo, the film started shooting on October 5 and will wrap up on November 13.

Shot in English and clearly aimed at an international market, which is increasingly keen on Spanish-style horror movies, the film centres on Emma. This young woman inexplicably starts to suffer from strange fits which she attributes to the fact something terrible is taking hold of her.
