La regista Camila Beltran

Questo articolo è disponibile in inglese.

Since 27 June, Camila Beltran, a director who has received much attention for her short films such as Pedro Malheur (special mention in Clermont-Ferrand in 2014) and Pacifico oscuro (in competition at Locarno in 2020), has been shooting her first feature film, Mi Bestia (lit. "My Beast"). Winner of the Arte Kino Prize at the Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum at San Sebastián in 2020, the Colombian filmmaker's project is positioned between Brian De Palma's Carrie and Lucrecia Martel's The Holy Child, and is part coming-of-age, part monster movie, part disaster film.

Written by Camila Beltran and Silvina Schnicer (writer and co-director of Tigre, which was screened at Toronto Contemporary World Cinema and San Sebastián New Directors in 2017), the script is set in Bogotá in 1996. The world around her seems stranger, and Mila feels that she herself is changing. Could she not be the cursed being that has been foretold?

Produced by Lionel Massol and Pauline Seigland for French company Films Grand Huit (which initiated and developed the project) and by Colombian outfit Bells Medios, Mi Bestia is supported by the Proimagenes fund, the Brittany region (production aid) and Sofica Cofinova. The five-week shoot will end on 29 July, with Sylvain Verdet (Sons of Ramses [+leggi anche:

) as director of photography. Distribution in French cinemas will be handled by New Story and international sales by Pulsar Content.

For the record, Films Grand Huit is currently in post-production on Disco Boy by Italian director Giacomo Abbruzzese (read the article – starring German director Franz Rogowski) and is preparing Rabia by Mareike Engelhardt (which has just been granted French-German co-production aid – read the news). Also in the pipeline, at various stages of financing or development, are Jonathan Millet's Les Fantômes (read Pauline Seigland's interview at Cinemed), Rémi Allier's Quand ce sera la fin du monde and Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis' Deep Fake.
