Il catalogo Panoramica avvicina i film spagnoli ai festival internazionali

Presented at the Marché du Film at the last Cannes Film Festival, Panoramica Film is a catalogue of emerging Spanish cinema from the last decade that is offered to international festivals along with its own streaming platform. This Play Acció Cultural initiative, which is backed by the Ministry of Culture and Sport (through the Cultural Action and Promotion programme) Catalan Films, opens the door for Spanish filmmaking abroad and focuses on captivating new audiences beyond its borders.

The programmers of any event can select works from the Panoramica catalogue or choose to incorporate its specially curated itineraries into their digital programme: the themed proposals are created by a team of specialists and there are currently two, one dedicated to the new wave of Catalan cinema and the other in which landscape plays a special role.

Xavier G Puerto, also founder of the REC international festival in Tarragona, is the director of Panoramica, and his curators are the sociologist and cultural manager Isona Admetlla, the consultant Mercedes Martínez-Abarca and the journalist Miquel Escudero.

"It's a platform for festivals outside Spain to use and it's up and running: the website can be visited and we're already receiving offers," says Xavier G. Puerto. "Because the life of films is getting shorter every day, barely a year, and in the pandemic we saw that not all festivals have the capacity to tackle the digital challenge: we saw these two situations and that there were needs. With Panoramica we try to give quality Spanish films a longer life, providing a specific service to international festivals interested in Spanish cinema; and, furthermore, curatorship is becoming increasingly important in the audiovisual sector, at a time when the capacity for choice and criterion in the face of overwhelming options means that it has a differential presence".

But how can a festival from outside of Spain get in touch? "You can contact us through our website and choose one of the itineraries we propose or choose from the films in our catalogue," he continues. "And based on our agreement, we set rates and connect in two ways: you can watch the films by blocking them for that particular festival on our website and, if the festival has an online version, we link the two websites. So, festivals can complement their programming: those who want to have a retrospective or a parallel programme, we make all the work involved (rights management, securing the titles, etc.) easy for them, as we collaborate with distributors and sales agents.”
