Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, the industry strand of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, celebrated its 20th edition with guests attending on site as well as connecting via different chat platforms. Overall, over 550 visitors came to Tallinn, and 150 were present online. The gathering unspooled between 19 and 26 November, and concluded with the handing out of eight awards (not including Special Mentions) to film projects or producers from Europe. Some of these projects were still at the script stage, as was the case for Dreaming of Lions, written by Paolo Marinou-Blanco, who is also set to direct the film. The project, which is being produced by Justin Amorim, won the Script Pool Award, which comes with €2,500 in hard cash.

by Natalia Sinelnikova, which is being produced by Julia Wagner. There was also a Just Film Award of €1,000 in cash, intended for the promotion and publicity of the winning title, which this year was Paula by Florencia Wehbe, produced by Fernanda Rocca and Claudio Esposito.

Sixteen projects were hopefuls for the Baltic Event Co-production awards, and the jury gave its accolade to Lioness, directed by Liina Triškina-Vanhatalo and produced by Ivo Felt. The Screen International Best Pitch Award, which includes coverage of the winning film, was presented to Katarina Launing for You Can Dance; the film’s producer is Peter Krupenin. There was also a Special Mention (entailing free industry accreditation at Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event for 2022, 2023 and 2024) granted to Hysterias, written and directed by as many as five filmmakers: Ieva Norvele, Adriana Roze, Liene Linde, Alise Zariņa and Marta Elīna Martinsone, and with one producer on board: Aija Bērziņa.

Two producers pitching their projects received the Producers Network Prize for Promising Young Producers: they were Clara Larrin (for Our Memory) and Larisa Oleinik (for Yurki).

Finally, as announced last week (see the news and the interview), the MIDPOINT HBO Europe Award went to the Hungarian project Elephant, written by David Csicskar and produced by Balazs Zachar.
