Taming the Garden di Salomé Jashi

MajorDocs is Majorca’s first international festival for non-fiction films, a space where visitors can come and discover other realities and points of view through a carefully curated selection of creative documentaries. In a time marked by a glut of content, this festival offers a slower, more laid-back experience. It’s a gathering with no competitive programming, highlighting the merits of each film and every auteur, and also fostering a critical perspective through professional conferences and round-tables.

MajorDocs plays a key role in facilitating the circulation of auteurs and works that are by no means easy to find and which, if it weren’t for this festival, would never reach audiences in the Balearics. Every year, the event premieres eight feature-length documentaries that break new ground, and which are specifically selected to encourage reflection. This limited selection is totally in line with the festival’s “slow” philosophy, and all of the screenings are accompanied by a conversation with the directors, bringing the creators closer to the audience, and thus creating an up-close and personal experience.

In addition, PRO is MajorDocs’ strand dedicated to bringing creators and professionals together. It will thus host master classes, round-tables, presentations and meetings between producers, filmmakers, distributors and programmers, including local, national and international ones. Every day, proceedings will be opened by a master class on a certain aspect of the creative process that lies behind documentaries. At this edition, Lithuanian filmmaker Audrius Stonys, philosopher Remedios Zafra and screenwriter Marta Andreu will be the ones conversing and sharing their experience and their thoughts on documentaries, the current state of the industry and creative processes. In addition, all of the MajorDocs PRO activities will be live-streamed: the opening event, master classes, DOC Sessions and closing event will be broadcast on its website, social networks and Vimeo platform, and viewers will have the chance to take part and send in questions or comments in real time.
