, the first fiction feature from Belgian filmmaker Christophe Hermans which will have its market premiere at the Pre-Cannes Screenings, the online event organised (from 21 to 25 June 2021 and exclusively for professionals) by the Marché du Film (which will then take place in person during the 74th Cannes Film Festival from 6 to 17 July).

Noticed thanks to his short films (Poids Plume, Le Crabe, La Balançoire, Fancy-Fair) and his documentaries, the filmmaker has put together a cast mixing French and Belgian actors, including Ludivine Sagnier (recently seen in the series The New Pope [+leggi anche:

), Sophie Breyer (seen in the series The Break), Mara Taquin (who will also soon appear in Rien à foutre and Paradis sale), Bonnie Duvauchelle (for the first time in an important role), Tom Vermeir and Romain Guillermic.

Adapted by the director as well as Noëmie Nicolas from the eponymous novel from French writer Arthur Loustalot, The Hive centres on Marion, Claire and Louise who, as far as they can remember, have always been living at the pace of their mother Alice’s ups and downs. Now love is all they have left to fight the spiral of self-destruction in which Alice is sinking ever more deeply – an unconditional love that is as violent as it is indescribable.

Produced by Cassandre Warnauts and Jean-Yves Roubin for Belgian company Frakas Productions, The Hive was co-produced by Caroline Bonmarchand and Xenia Sulyma for French company Avenue B Productions, and counts amongst its backers the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, the RTBF, Proximus, Wallimage, the Belgian tax-shelter, the Beaumarchais Foundation and the MEDIA programme. The cinematography was handled by Colin Lévêque and the score was composed by Fabian Fiorini.
