Having previously turned heads with his short films (which include Feu mes frères, Saint Jean and Sans amour), Simon Rieth will now be filming his first feature-length movie as of the beginning of May, for a duration of six weeks, in Royan and Vendée, with a cast composed of non-professional actors aged between 18 and 21.

Written by the director in league with Léa Riche, Nos cérémonies is set in Royan, in 2021. Reaching the other side of adolescence, Tony and Noé play a game of death and chance as the burning-hot summer days stretch out before them. From the garden next-door, Cassandre watches them... It’s a teen-movie of a fantastical kind given that (without wanting to give too much away) one of the two brothers wields a very special power…

Produced by Inès Daïen Dasi on behalf of Les Films du Poisson, Summer Scars has been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, and enjoys the support of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, the Charente-Maritime department and the Pays de la Loire region, not to mention backing from the CNC (via an advance on receipts but also by way of an aid for visual or sound creation). Distribution in France will be steered by The Jokers whilst international sales are in the hands of Wild Bunch International.

A CNC advance on receipts will also go to Le Paradis [+leggi anche:

, a project by Belgium’s Zeno Graton who wrote the screenplay alongside France’s Clara Bourreau (which scooped the Special Jury Junior Prize for Best Screenplay in 2017). The story centres around 16-year-old Joe who is held in a correctional institution in the depths of the Belgian Ardennes region and who attempts to build a future for himself, torn between the disciplinarian rigours of the facility and his all-consuming love for rebellious fellow prisoner William… Production is helmed by Tarantula in Belgium and by Silex Films in France.

An advance on receipts has likewise been granted to Virginie Sauveur’s Magnificat, as well as an animated project overseen by Alexandre Gavras on behalf of KG Productions: Les Sauvages by Dimitri Planchon and Jean-Paul Guigue. It’s worth noting that the duo and their producer have already worked together in the past, when adapting Planchon’s comic book Blaise into an animated series (30x3mn) for Arte.
