Dutch Minister of Culture Ingrid van Engelshoven announced the approval of a second COVID-19 support package aimed at rescuing the country's cultural and creative industries during these difficult times. The provision will take effect in the first half of 2021 and part of these funds will be allocated to back the local film sector.

In detail, the support budget for film will amount to €28.5 million and will be distributed starting from 1 January 2021. Out of this sum, €6.25 million will be available to cover additional production costs incurred during the pandemic; through this measure, all of the productions supported by the Netherlands Film Fund (including minority co-productions) will be eligible for a contribution covering the costs required to comply with healthcare protocols.

A dedicated €10 million “Pandemic Guarantee Fund” will protect productions backed by the national film agency against uninsurable COVID-19 damages. Next, €6.25 million will provide an extension of the body's successful incentive for the making of high-end TV series for a further six months (until June 2021).

Moreover, €6 million will be invested in schemes that will support individual filmmakers, as well as the development and making of their projects, similarly to the ones implemented through the first aid package. These initiatives will be explained in further detail on the Netherlands Film Fund's official website at the beginning of January 2021. Finally, part of the funding will be reserved to some multi-annual institutions, including the festivals Nijmegen's Go Short and Amsterdam's Imagine.
