The third edition of European Work in Progress Cologne (EWIP), an independent industry event organised by AG Verleih - Association of German Independent Film Distributors and mainly supported by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, is gearing up to kick off on 5 October. The event, which aims to create opportunities for arthouse projects to meet appropriate distributors, co-producers, world sales agents and festival representatives, will unspool in the German city of Cologne between 5 and 7 October, during the 30th Film Festival Cologne. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will take place in the presence of the participants, who will need to adhere to coordinated hygiene measures.

"The experiences at Cannes and other industry events in this year of the coronavirus have shown that direct exchanges between people, despite the numerous digital communication possibilities, cannot be replaced by anything. That is why we have been working with our partners for a long time on a concept that will meet both hygiene standards and the requirement to bring all participants to Cologne. We are very pleased that the guests from Germany and the world have accepted our invitation,” says Torsten Frehse, board member of AG Verleih.

Fiction films and documentaries making use of a wide variety of themes and styles will be presented to industry professionals in 15-minute pitching sessions, as well as one-on-one meetings. Various panel discussions and workshops organised in cooperation with Creative Europe Desk NRW and Creative Europe Desk Germany will complement the programme.

The jury of the third EWIP will bring together Triin Tramberg, programme coordinator and head of Creative Gate for Tallinn Black Nights Festival; Leslie Chen, senior advisor at Blossoms Entertainment; Melanie Andernach, CEO and co-founder of MADE IN GERMANY Filmproduktion; and Sebastian Lückel, head of acquisitions, co-productions and programming at ARD Degeto.

The best pitches could win prizes of a total value of €37,000, including post-production services as well as press support at international festivals. The award sponsors are, once again, K13 Studios, LAVAlabs Moving Images, ARRI Media and ZOOM Medienfabrik.
