Santiago Segura has the iron will of a conquistador. Not content with being the “saviour” of film exhibition in Spain with his latest comedy, Father There Is Only One 2 [+leggi anche:

scheda film], which is currently the biggest national box-office hit of this disastrous 2020 (having been seen by more than 1.5 million viewers in its home country), last Friday, 28 August, he released it in 36 theatres across 16 cities in the USA, including Chicago, Houston and Las Vegas.

To date, the movie has grossed €10 million in Spain. The flick was directed, (co-)written (with Marta González de Vega, the screenwriter of Sin rodeos [+leggi anche:

scheda film]) and produced by the Madrilenian actor/filmmaker, who also starred in it. It is the sequel to a saga that began with Father There Is Only One [+leggi anche:
trailer
scheda film], the remake he made last year of an Argentinian cinematic smash.

The film has managed to rake in this enviable sum in barely one month, as it was released on 29 July, despite the restrictions imposed on cinemas in an attempt to contain the coronavirus pandemic. It has held onto the number-one spot at the box office for four weeks, and in its opening weekend alone, it managed to boost the battered national box-office takings by 165% compared to the weekend before.

The cast of this film for all ages is rounded off by Toni Acosta, Leo Harlem, Silvia Abril, Loles León, and child actors Martina D’Antiochia, Luna Fulgencio, Carlos G Morollón, Sirena Segura and Calma Segura, the latter two being, as you may have surmised from their surname, the helmer’s own daughters.

Father There Is Only One 2 is a production by Bowfinger International Pictures, Atresmedia Cine and Mamá se fue de viaje la película AIE, in conjunction with Sony Pictures International Productions, which saw the involvement of Atresmedia and Amazon Prime Video. Its distribution has been entrusted to Sony Pictures.
