Astra Film Festival annuncia una 27ma edizione ibrida

Questo articolo è disponibile in inglese.

Romania’s longest-lived documentary event, the Astra Film Festival, has announced that its 2020 edition will be split in two: between 4 and 13 September, approximately 40 films will be screened in five locations in and around the city of Sibiu, then approximately 40 other films will be screened online starting 15 October, the traditional date when the festival is organised each year.

Organisers have announced that the 2020 edition “will take place under the sign of responsibility.” They add that “this year, more than ever, the audience is the main partner of the Astra Film Festival,” as the viewers’ benevolence is of paramount importance for observing the strict protective measures required by the Romanian authorities for public gatherings.

Two of the main locations of the outdoor edition are the historical center of Sibiu and the Astra Museum, an ethnographic museum near Sibiu with an area generous enough for the festival to screen as many as three films simultaneously on three different screens.

As for the online edition, it will be hosted on an international screening platform, with access geoblocked to Romania. Beginning last autumn, the festival has been screening documentary films on its own website, and has now announced that some of the films in the 2020 selection will be available for online viewing even after 25 October, when its online edition will end.

The festival’s industry platform, Astra Film DokTank, will also be held online. The deadline of applications is 24 August, and the ten selected projects will be announced in September.

"The current context has shown us that without art and culture we are poorer and sadder, and documentary has the gift of penetrating the intimacy of human experiences and establishing connections with the world, overcoming geographical, cultural, ethnic, racial and religious barriers. It places itself at the forefront of exploring the complex issues of our existence through art. Documentary film or the cinema of reality opens horizons to the knowledge of other civilisations and cultures and, implicitly, to tolerance,” stated Astra's founder and president Dumitru Budrala in a press release.
