The Polish Film Institute’s (PISF’s) second funding session of 2020 was modest in comparison to the first one this year: only five projects – as against ten – will receive financial grants. A further two films, White Courage [+leggi anche:

by Marcin Koszałka and Kosmos by Michał Marczak, were moved to the next session.

However, it’s not the quantity that drew the attention of industry experts and the media to the PISF experts’ ruling. Of the five supported films, four will be helmed by female directors, which is unprecedented in both number and ratio. The Polish branch of the Women in Film organisation has been lobbying for gender parity and increased visibility for female artists for years, and finally it seems to have come to fruition. The only male director supported this time is Robert Gliński, who was given PLN 3.5 million (€0.81 million) for his period drama Figurant. Kasia Adamik (Amok [+leggi anche:

, Netflix’s upcoming Erotica 2022) can also count on PISF support to direct her third feature, Fucking Bornholm, which was previously produced in Poland in the form of an audio show, based on Kazejak’s original idea (but directed by Krzysztof Czeczot and Leszek Zduń). Her upcoming film undertaking will be produced by Friends With Benefits Studio.

Finally, Polish auteur Dorota Kędzierzawska is gearing up to make Sny pełne dymu, with Kid Film acting as producer, while first-timer Justyna Tafel will direct Safe and Silent, with the Centrala Distribution production outfit behind her.

The PISF will back each of the above projects (apart from Figurant) with the same amount of PLN 2 million (€0.46 million).
