The upcoming seventh edition of the Cinekid Script LAB will host 19 writers from 14 European countries. The selected participants will join a six-month project-driven initiative that focuses on the development of scripts for children’s films.

The effort is designed to elevate and enhance projects that “reflect on a great variety of current issues from the perspective of the youngest generation”. On this occasion, the workshop will begin before Cinekid for Professionals in Amsterdam in October and will run until the Berlinale in February 2021.

In the official press release, the organisers say that the upcoming edition of Cinekid Script LAB will be “larger than ever”. In total, 14 projects will take part in the intensive, tailor-made script-training workshop, four countries will make their first appearance (namely, Greece, Serbia, Hungary and Turkey), and the Polish Film Institute will be back as one of the initiative’s partners.

Speaking about this year’s workshop, festival director Heleen Rouw commented: “Over the past few years, we have seen a continuous increase in strong and unique applications for the LAB, and this year was no different. It is striking to see relevant topics such as environmental issues, inclusion and identity in these feature-film projects for young audiences. We can’t wait to work with these talented writers!”

The Cinekid Script LAB is co-funded by Creative Europe - MEDIA, and is organised in co-operation with the Finnish Film Foundation, the Flanders Audiovisual Fund, the Icelandic Film Centre, the Netherlands Film Fund, the Norwegian Film Institute, the Polish Film Institute and the Swedish Film Institute.
