An adaptation by the filmmaker himself of the eponymous novel written by Fabrice Caro (better known under his successful comic book pen name Fabcaro), the story centres on a character called Adrien. "A family dinner, a napkin-holder in the shape of a cock and a discussion revolving around underfloor heating. Who hasn’t felt the need, in the middle of a dismal family dinner, to lose themselves in thought? Who hasn’t been put on “stand-by” and left fretfully waiting for a reconciliatory text? And who hasn’t experienced heightening angst at the idea of having to make a speech at a loved one’s wedding? This evening, for Adrien, is the ultimate nightmare; it ticks all the boxes."
