Written by the director together with Séverine Werba, the story is set in the 1960s in the French region Alsace. The local housekeeping school aims to make ideal housewives of its young students. Keeping house and fulfilling their marital duty without flinching — it is what director Paulette Van der Beck (Binoche), together with her sister-in-law Gilberte (Moreau) and her sister Marie-Thérèse (Lvovsky), teaches with fervour. But on the eve of May 1968, she will see all her certainties falter. Is it the return of her first love (Baer) or the air of freedom blowing over France that troubles her so? What if this good wife finally became a free woman?

Produced by François Kraus and Denis Pineau-Valencienne for Les Films du Kiosque, How To Be A Good Wife is co-produced by France 3 Cinéma, Orange Studio, Memento Films, and Belgian company Umedia. Pre-bought by France 3, Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature is also supported by the Ile-de-France and Grand Est regions where the shoot is taking place, with Guillaume Schiffman as Director of Photography. French distributions will be handled by Memento while Imagine Films Distribution will take care of releases in Benelux. International sales are handled by Memento.
