The story, penned by the director and his regular writing partner Audrey Diwan (the duo was nominated for the Lumières Award for Best Screenplay in 2015 for The Connection), whisks us away to Marseille in 2012, a time when the neighbourhoods in the north of the city sadly hold an undesirable record – that of being the area with the highest crime rate in France. At the insistence of their superiors, the field brigade of the Northern Anti-Crime Squad is constantly striving to get better results. In this high-risk zone, the cops adapt their methods to the laws of the council estates, and sometimes overstep the mark. Until one day, the judicial system turns against them…

Produced by Hugo Sélignac and Vincent Mazel for Chi-Fou-Mi Productions, BAC Nord is being co-produced by France 2 Cinéma and StudioCanal. Having been pre-purchased by France 2, Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature will be shot for ten weeks in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, with Laurent Tangy in charge of the cinematography. The French distribution and international sales will be handled by StudioCanal.
