Written by Trier and his regular collaborator Eskil Vogt, The Worst Person in the World is a dramedy that follows 30-year-old Julie, her quest for romantic relationships, her troubled friendships and her career struggles over the past four years in modern-day Oslo. It is a film about love in our times and the endeavour to find meaning in it. Renate Reinsve (in her first leading role) will play Julie; the actress has previously appeared in the TV series Almost Adult, and she also had a small role in Oslo, August 31st. Flanking her is Anders Danielsen Lie, who previously starred in the other two films in Trier’s trilogy.

Budgeted at NOK 47.7 million (€4,925,000) and produced by Thomas Robsahm’s new company, Oslo Pictures AS, The Worst Person in the World already has Paris-based MK2 films on board as a co-producer and the international sales agent, while more partners will be added soon.

Three documentaries also received funding from the NFI: The Tattooed Sun by Shwan Dler Qaradaki, which tells the story of the director’s late mother by using watercolours and drawings, produced by Kulturbyrået Mesén AS (NOK 350,000 – €36,000); Hockey Dreams by Oskari Pastilla and Janne Niskala, which follows the trials and tribulations of the South Korean hockey team, produced by Finland’s Vaski Film with Norway’s Medieoperatørene AS (NOK 550,000 – €57,000); and Being Eriko [+leggi anche:

by Jannik Splidsboel, which is about Japanese classical pianist Eriko Makimura, produced by Denmark’s Sonntag Pictures, with Trondheim-based Håvard Wettland Gossé and Spætt Film AS serving as co-producers (NOK 250,000 – €26,000).
