Série Series nel cuore della creazione europea
La serie TV danese When The Dust Settles

Questo articolo è disponibile in inglese.

A non-competitive gathering conceived by auteurs and producers that is dedicated to European series, where the screenings are followed by in-depth case studies with the creative teams behind them (screenwriters, directors, producers, composers, actors and so on): such is the editorial policy of Série Series, which clearly and successfully sets it apart from other events devoted to a genre that is buzzing with energy. And the eighth edition will be no exception to this philosophy focused on creation and creators, as more than 100 talents (auteurs, producers, broadcasters and so on) will be coming along to share their vision, experience and working methods. A total of 700 European professionals and 3,000 festival-goers are expected to visit the gathering in Fontainebleau from 1-3 July 2019.

The menu rustled up by artistic director Marie Barraco for these three days of immersion in the heart of European creation includes 29 series (see a detailed list below) hailing from 14 countries, of which eight have already been completed (five of which will be world-premiered) and 21 are works in progress (12 in production, with hitherto unseen excerpts, and nine at the writing stage).

Several master classes are also on the agenda, led by British screenwriter-director Sally Wainwright (Last Tango in Halifax, Happy Valley, Gentleman Jack), her fellow countrywoman, composer Isobel Waller-Bridge, Italian director Niccolò Ammaniti (The Miracle) and Belgian actress Veerle Baetens. Also set to take part in the One Vision sessions are Israel’s Dov Alfon (who will talk about his novel A Long Night in Paris, which is currently being adapted into a series), Italian producer Walter Iuzzolino (who will explore the subject "poverty is power"), his British counterpart Simon Cornwell (who heads up the company The Ink Factory) and US academic Jonathan Gottschall (who will analyse storytelling, or "how stories shape our humanity"). Meanwhile, the myriad debates and breakdowns will home in on two major European public broadcasters: France Télévisions and DR (Denmark). Interestingly, this edition of Série Series has chosen the notion of power as its overarching theme: what are the main challenges that need to be overcome in the sector? What are they dependent on – money, the audience, the talents or the art of mastering them? What relationship do auteurs, producers, broadcasters, distributors and actors have with power, and how do they handle it, share it, seize it and represent it on screen?

Lastly, the event will certainly not neglect to improve the film literacy of the audience of tomorrow with the second edition of Série Series Kids, a section dedicated to youth programmes that will see more than 2,000 children take part in a lively but educational programme of screenings and workshops.
