Laurent Lafitte’s adaptation of Sébastien Thiéry’s eponymous play revolves around 40-year-old Jean-Louis who realises, as he makes his way home, that his heart is no longer beating. Is he alive? Is he dead? Feeling as if he’s living on borrowed time, he investigates, he agonises. Neither his veterinarian friend nor his wife Valérie can give him the answers he needs to appease the panic he feels. Valérie’s holistic life coach is the only one who can help Jean-Louis. But in order for her to do so, he must follow her advice and return to the source of his problems: his mother; or, more precisely, his mother’s genitals, which he will have to take a photo of…

Produced by Alain Attal on behalf of Trésor Films, The Origin of the World is co-produced by France 2 CinémaStudioCanal, 2L Productions and Belgian outfit Artémis Productions. Shooting on this feature film, which has been pre-purchased by Canal+, will continue in Paris until 26 July.
