, an animated film is about to return to the competition of the Critics’ Week, the 58th edition of which will unspool from 15-23 May as an integral part of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. This time around, French director Jérémy Clapin will be basking in the limelight with his first feature, I Lost My Body [+leggi anche:

. This is a particularly eagerly awaited debut, as the filmmaker has really made waves with his short films Une histoire vertébraleSkhizein (which scooped more than 90 festival prizes, including the Audience Award at Annecy in 2008, and secured a nomination for the 2009 César Award in its respective category) and Palmipedarium.

The story, written by Clapin and Guillaume Laurant (nominated for the Oscar for Best Screenplay in 2002 for Amélie [+leggi anche:

, which also earned him a BAFTA and a César nod), based on the latter’s novel Happy Hand, is set in Paris. A young man’s cut-off hand escapes from a dissection lab with one crucial goal: to get back to its body. As it scrambles through the hazards and pitfalls of Paris, it remembers its life with the young man it was once attached to… until they met Gabrielle.

Presented as a sneak preview at Cartoon Movie last month, I Lost My Body fuses 3D animation and 2D drawings created on a graphic tablet.

Produced by Marc du Pontavice for Xilam AnimationI Lost My Body had a budget of €4.75 million, including a co-production by Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Cinéma. The French distribution will be handled by Rezo Films, and the international sales are being overseen by Charades.
