The Sarajevo Film Festival's industry section has announced the first batch of projects selected for its Co-Production Market and CineLink Drama segments.

Of the eight feature-film projects in the Co-Production Market line-up, three hail from Turkey and two from Romania, while the Drama section features two Croatian projects and the first one ever to come from Kosovo. 

“If we look at the current market for drama series in our region, we see that the money is there and the distribution platforms are there, but the quality is not yet there,” says Jovan Marjanović, Sarajevo's head of Industry. “We see the drama business increasingly becoming like the independent film business, which, among other things, means that the development phase is key for reducing quality risk. This is where we see CineLink's role at the moment – we can help make the shows better through the dedicated work of our consultants and mentors. What we have in front of us in the five projects selected for CineLink Drama 2019 is pretty good already, and we are certain that once ready, these shows will define what quality drama series in Southeast Europe mean.”

Head of CineLink Amra Bakšić Čamo says: “The selection represents the voices of a new generation that demands to be heard through strong, gripping cinematic storytelling. Though diverse in terms of points of view and authenticity, there is a common trait of questioning one’s identity, which is a concern for many generations across Europe. The projects are witty, passionate and thought-provoking, and they come from some of the most exciting emerging talent from our region.”

The projects will take part in a preparatory workshop to fine-tune their development in April, ahead of their presentation at CineLink Industry Days at the Sarajevo Film Festival, from 19-22 August.
