Tomorrow sees the kick-off of the return match in the second act of the north-south duel between series-focused international events in France, as the second edition of Canneseries (5-10 April 2019) is due to get under way less than a week after Séries Mania drew to a close in Lille.

The Cannes-based event, which has been tacked onto the MIPTV market (8-11 April), will be opened by an out-of-competition screening of Vernon Subutex, an adaptation of the first two tomes of the literary trilogy by Virginie Despentes, toplined by Romain Duris, who is flanked by Céline Sallette and Laurent Lucas.

The ten series selected for the competition will be weighed up by a jury chaired by Swiss director Baran bo Odar (known for the series Dark), aided by the UK’s Stephen Fry and Emma Mackey, Canada’s Katheryn Winnick and France’s Rob. Seven of the ten series locking horns are European, with one Norwegian production (Magnus), a Spanish one (Perfect Life/Déjate llevar [+leggi anche:

This edition of Canneseries will also boast a short-format competition and a couple of master classes led by British actress Diana Rigg (who played the iconic Emma Peel in The Avengers, and was popular more recently in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Game of Thrones) and by her fellow countryman Steven Knight (the creator and writer of the series Peaky Blinders, and the director of Locke [+leggi anche:
