The German-Polish Film Fund – which sees the German Federal Film Board (FFA), the MDM (Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung) and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg regional funds, and the Polish Film Institute join forces – has distributed €200,000 to three feature-film projects in its second round of support for 2018.

The selected projects include The Masseur by celebrated multiple Berlin awardee Malgorzata Szumowska, a co-production between Pola Pandora Filmproduktion (Berlin) and Nowhere (Warsaw). The film, which was granted €50,000, focuses on the character of a massage therapist called Wojtek, who has his regular clients from the Warsaw middle class, and tends to become a close friend for many of them.

) earned INDI Film Berlin and Centrala Film Lodz €100,000. The main character is a woman who leaves her family to start afresh on a Danish island. On the way, a suspicion slowly creeps into her mind: what if her new love were trying to take over her identity? 

The bilateral fund also contributed €50,000 to the financing of the historical drama Morphine, an adaptation of Szczepan Twardoch's novel of the same name, writing duties on which were entrusted to Krzysztof Rak (Gods [+leggi anche:

). This 1939-set production, a joint effort by Electric Sheep Berlin and Aurum Film Lublin, follows Lieutenant Konstanty Willemann, a dandy and hedonist of both German and Polish descent, as the bombs rain down on Warsaw. After an initial attempt to numb his inner turmoil with alcohol and morphine, he decides to join the resistance.

The next application deadline for the German-Polish Film Fund is 14 December 2018.
