Presentation and Philosophy:

The Academy is the only specialised school of higher education for music, theatre, dance and film art in Lithuania upholding and developing the training traditions of professional artists and art makers, fostering and preserving the values of academic art and culture, open to original creative ideas and fresh artistic expression.

Its pedagogues are the most outstanding Lithuanian artists, actively involved in the cultural life, also well-known for their artistic achievements abroad.

The Academy conducts and publishes art research based on the principles of freedom of creative expression and research, fair competition, protection of intellectual property and publicity of the results of artistic and scientific activities.

The Academy pursues the goal of becoming an attractive and modern school for music, theatre, dance and film artists educating the most talented young people in the field of arts, while promoting their creativity, their willingness to explore new possibilities, their resourcefulness and openness to Lithuania and the world.

The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) is the only major higher education institution in Lithuania which provides educational strands at tertiary level in: Music (Music Performance, Composition, Music Pedagogy), Theatre (Acting, Directing, Dance), Audiovisual Art (Directing, Photography, Screenwriting, Sound Directing, Digital Editing), Art Studies (Musicology, Ethnomusicology, Film Studies, Theatre Studies, Arts Management). 

Since 2011 the Academy offers artistic doctorate (4 year third cycle studies).

Admission and entry requirements:

How to Apply

Until 1st of April (15th of May for EU citizens) a candidate who intends to enrol in the proposed study programme must submit to the Academy’s Admission Department by mail, personally, or through an authorized person, the application form, a photo and a video recording in DVD format

After the evaluation of the Foreigner’s ability to take the entrance examinations, until 1 June the Academy’s Admission Department sends to the entrant a written invitation to take the entrance examinations.

Until 15th of June Entrants shall submit to the Admission Committee: documents (originals) witnessing secondary education or their copies certified by a Notary Public; a certificate issued by the Lithuanian Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education concerning equivalents of subjects and transfer of grades (www.skvc.lt); a copy of an order of the Minister of Education and Science concerning recognition of the qualification gained in a foreign country; a copy of passport (or ID).

EU citizens shall be admitted in the same order as citizens of the Republic of Lithuania. Calculating a competitive grade for holders of foreign qualifications instead of musicology secondary school examination or music state examination for the school-leaving certificate an average mark is formed from music subjects indicated in the documents of education acquired.

Certificate about a passed Lithuanian language credit test, if in the certificate concerning equivalents of subjects and transfer of grades it is prescribed that a person has to take a Lithuanian language credit test – when entering programmes in the Lithuanian language. Incomplete applications shall not be considered.

The candidates who receive a written invitation are required to attend and take the entrance examinations.

Upon entrance to the Academy, conditions to study in English or Russian languages shall be established.

Tuition fees

EU citizens have the same right as national students, and those who successfully pass entrance examinations may receive state-funded support. Those who successfully pass examinations but do not get state funding must pay the same fee as national students. Non-EU citizens and all students who do not receive state-funded support must pay a yearly tuition fee fixed by the Academy’s Senate:

BA (4 study years, 240 ECTS) in: Music  €5,270; Theatre and Film € 3,215; Art Management € 3,215

MA (2 study years, 120 ECTS) in: Music € 6,256; Theatre and Film € 4,214; Art Studies € 4,214
