The film –the Spanish filmmaker’s first foray into the comedy genre– features a screenplay written by himself and comic author Mario Torrecillas, based on an original plot by the latter.

Its synopsis introduces Lola, Edgar and Robert's modern and chaotic grandmother, who took care of them after her daughter died a few years ago. The three of them live in a modest house on the outskirts of Barcelona, and nothing would suggest to them that their quiet life is about to drastically change. Because the woman has reached an advanced stage of Alzheimer's and the children, who do not want to be separated and end up in a foster home, will take care of her with great ingenuity and endless fantasy, hiding her illness. To do so, they will have to face, like Robert in his athletics competitions, more than 3,000 hurdles.

According to Villaronga, "we would like to try to appeal to the audience through narrative simplicity; this is a story that prioritises humour and tenderness but avoids easy sentimentality. My main working premise is that the film should convey the vision of an adult, but with the eyes of a child. The film goes hand in hand with the comic legacy of Spanish cinema masters: a humour that is not always black, but irreverent and surreal”, concludes the winner of two Goya awards for Black Bread [+lire aussi :

, which premiered at the IFFR and enjoyed success at last year’s Malaga Festival.

Loli Tormenta is film from IrusoinVilaüt Films and 3000 Obstáculos AIE, with the participation of RTVE, TV3 and Movistar Plus+ and funding from the ICAA and the ICEC. It will be distributed in cinemas by Caramel Films and Youplanet Pictures, with international sales managed by Film Factory Entertainment. Also, according to the production companies, this is an environmentally conscious production. Creast, a pioneering Spanish company in reducing and measuring the carbon footprint, specialised in the audio-visual sector, has been involved in assessing and developing its sustainable filming.
