The first session of this year’s Mediterranean Film Institute Script 2 Film Workshops is taking place on Nisyros from 24 June-7 July, and the script and project development training initiative has also unveiled its full programme.

One of the schedule’s highlights is the presence of creative couple from Belgium Julie Mahieu and Jonas Geirnaert, well known for their series The Day, which has been festooned with prizes, including the CITEM Award at the Biografilm Festival, the Best European Fiction Award at La Rochelle, and Best Series, Best Directing and Best Scenario at the Ensor Awards, among others.

Some of the activities include a lecture by producer Simon de Santiago (Biutiful [+lire aussi :

) on project analysis and its potential; a master class by Ove Jensen (Paradiddle Pictures) and Marco Gastine (Minimal Films) on writing for documentaries, aiming to inspire all of the participating filmmakers to get back to the core of what writing is when it comes to documentaries; and two master classes dispensed by Isabelle Fauvel (Initiative Films), “From Tutor Shadow to Script Consultant”, for the trainer trainees participating in the programme, and “Maieutics: From Desire to the Birth of a Film. From a Mid-Wife Angle”, for all participants.

Furthermore, Martina Bleis, head of the Berlinale Co-Production Market, is delivering a lecture on international co-productions and co-production markets, while Christian Routh, script analyst and co-head of studies at ScripTeast, is giving an online lecture about the “Screenwriter's Paradox”, and film marketing expert Nicolò Gallio is using two case studies from the 2022 MFI Script 2 Film Workshops to connect scripts to audiences.

Also, two open-air screenings of films are being organised: The Reports on Sarah and Saleem [+lire aussi :

by Georgis Grigorakis. Both movies were developed during the MFI Script 2 Film Workshops and received numerous awards around the world. Finally, Stelios Kraounakis is presenting the Greek audiovisual investment incentives, focusing on both cash rebates and tax relief, and Yianna Sarri, head of the Agora Film Market, is providing an overview of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s industry initiative.

MFI’s Script 2 Film Workshops are supported by the Creative Europe - MEDIA programme, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT SA), the Secretariat General for the Aegean and Island Policy, and the municipalities of Nisyros and Rhodes.
