by Cem Kaya was the victor in the Panorama Dokumente category. The prizes are awarded by the Berlinale Panorama section together with radioeins and rbb Television (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg). In Happiness, the main character wears orange for her job as an influencer, and a broad smile. The “Happiness” brand is her doctrine, but her home is a dark place where brute force has ruled for years. This film shows us what it costs to escape the trap of misogyny. Meanwhile, Kaya’s documentary Love, Deutschmarks and Death celebrates 60 years of Turkish music in Germany. During the Berlinale, all cinemagoers were invited to rate the films in the section on a voting card. In total, around 8,000 votes were cast and evaluated.

Next, a jury of three – consisting of Sara Fazilat, Carlotta Kittel and Henning Beckhoff – presented the Compass-Perspektive-Award for Best Film in the Perspektive Deutsches Kino programme. The award, consisting of a €5,000 cash prize and a trophy in the form of a compass, was bestowed upon Rebana Liz John’s Ladies Only (Germany/India).

This year’s Teddy Awards saw the triumph of Three Tidy Tigers Tied a Tie Tighter by Gustavo Vinagre (Brazil), crowned Best Feature Film. The movie is set in São Paulo and takes place in a dystopian near future, wherein a virus is circulating, one that mainly attacks the brain and the ability to remember.

Finally, FIPRESCI awarded four films in the main competition and in the Encounters, Panorama and Forum strands. Paolo Taviani’s Leonora addio [+lire aussi :
