The storyline introduces us to Pedro, Kiko and David, three men in their late thirties who are still struggling to find their place in the world and who travel to Rio de Janeiro to collect the dead body of Mateo, their best friend from secondary school, who has died in suspicious circumstances. However, when they get to Brazil, nothing is what it seems: the "dead man" has fled, his house has been turned upside down, and one of his ex-girlfriends is desperately trying to find him…

“When I read the screenplay, I immediately thought of those buddy movies that we all know, where the protagonists embark on some crazy adventure that makes them evolve as people. But besides this, when I delved deeper into the characters, I discovered that, without discarding those references, we were able to, and absolutely had to, search for a unique identity for our story,” remarks the director. “Using a fantastic premise that blends mystery and adventure as our starting point, we will laugh and suffer together with this group of pals who gradually abandon their ordinary, humdrum lives and begin a journey that will change them forever,” sums up Joaquín Mazón, who made his directorial debut in 2011 with the series Doctor Mateo.

The year after that, he helmed Con el culo al aire, followed by Down There (2015). His transition to the big screen came with the action-comedy Heroes Wanted (2016), which topped the box-office charts during its opening weekend and spawned a series of the same name that was aired by Antena 3 two years later, also directed by Mazón. Furthermore, the Madrilenian filmmaker is yet to release Two Many Chefs [+lire aussi :

, a movie he shot last year, starring Karra Elejalde, Enric Auquer and Megan Montaner, and produced by Mod and Kowalski Films.

De perdidos a Río is a production by Spanish outfits Pecado Films, La Claqueta PC and Mozi Capital AIE, as well as Portugal’s SPI, in conjunction with Sony Pictures International Productions.
