A timely re-opening of Norwegian society gave the 49th edition of the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund both a high level of industry attendance and a high-quality programme. Five awards were presented at the gathering: the Andreas Award, the Critics’ Award, the Audience Award, the Ray of Sunshine Award and the Next Nordic Generation Award.

The ecumenical Andreas Award, presented as part of a collaboration between the festival, cinema organisation Film & Kino and the newspaper Vårt Land, went to Kaouther Ben Hania’s The Man Who Sold His Skin [+lire aussi :

, Tunisia’s shortlisted entry for the 2020 Oscars. Critics’ hearts were warmed by American Todd StephensSwan Song, with Udo Kier’s main performance attracting particular attention, as the Norwegian Association of Critics awarded the film its 2021 prize. The Audience Award, given out by a jury of audience members appointed by the festival, went to Norway’s own Young and Afraid [+lire aussi :

The Ray of Sunshine, awarded “to the film that excites and spreads the most joy” among a jury appointed by the Norwegian Cinema Managers’ Association, went to CODA, Sian Heder’s US-French remake/version of the French title The Bélier Family [+lire aussi :

. The Next Nordic Generation Award, given out to the best graduation film from the Nordic film schools, went to Finland this year, as Anna Äärelä and her team received the sum of NOK 10,000 (€965) for their work on the film Mad from the Sun.
