The General Directorate for Cinema and Audiovisual Works of the Ministry of Culture in Italy yesterday published a call for proposals with a budget of 5 million euros to support the production of feature films made under a co-production or minority partnership scheme. These are works in which the participation of the Italian company is a minority, with respect to the participation of the non-Italian company which owns the highest share of rights of use and exploitation of the work. They must therefore be works created by one or more Italian companies and one or more non-Italian companies based in a country with which a film and audiovisual co-production agreement exists and is in force, or (in the case of international partnership) in a country with which such agreements do not exist (download the announcement here).
The new 2016 Cinema Law in fact provides that public intervention in support of cinema and audiovisual works promotes international co-productions and the circulation and distribution of Italian and European film and audiovisual productions in Italy and abroad.
The sum of 5 million euros is divided into two evaluation sessions of 2.5 million euros each: the first from 10 May 2021 to 4 June 2021, and the second from 6 September 2021 to 1 October 2021.
By the date of the grant request and under penalty of inadmissibility, the work must have obtained provisional Italian nationality as a co-production or international partnership. Requests must be submitted through the new DGCOL platform.
Detailed instructions can be found here.
