Six months was the total duration of this year’s MIDPOINT TV Launch, which wraps with the third and final workshop (23-27 November), set to be held during the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and, more precisely, within the context of its industry section, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event.

Known for being the only existing residential, project-based training programme targeting its content at, and tailoring it for, creative teams of emerging professionals hailing from the Central and Eastern European region, this year, MIDPOINT TV Launch was forced to run entirely online. The first workshop ran from 10-22 June, with the second stop for the participating teams happening for a total of two weeks from 7-20 September. In this extensive digital programme, the project teams worked in three groups under the leadership of group leaders Gabor Krigler, Ben Morris and Cyril Tysz.

Nine TV series projects will be showcased at the Season Finale, a tailor-made pitching event that will be presented on 26 November, online, within Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event. As in the previous events, the Season Finale will be open to industry professionals, who will also be able to arrange one-on-one digital meetings afterwards.

Marike Muselaers, MIDPOINT TV Launch financing tutor, underlined, “MIDPOINT TV Launch works as a creative incubator/accelerator for talented TV producers and writers from Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Baltic countries and the wider Mediterranean area. Nine carefully selected ideas and teams have been nurtured, trained and coached to turn these ideas into pitch-ready TV series. What I love about MIDPOINT is the focus on all aspects of the TV value chain: participants do not just deliver their pilot-episode scripts, character descriptions, episode synopses and season outlines, but they also develop a proper ready-to-market package after being coached in the production, financing, pitching, distribution, sales and marketing of their projects.”

Muselaers, who also served as a consultant on the projects as well as giving a lecture, continues: “MIDPOINT, to me, is one of those stamps of quality that we European (co-)producers and buyers often look for when taking projects by new or still unknown talent on board. By selecting, training and showcasing talent, creativity and skills, MIDPOINT helps us navigate the massive amount of TV projects in development in Europe in general, and Central Eastern Europe in particular.”
