While the 12th edition of the Prishtina International Film Festival (PriFest), the leading fiction-film festival in Kosovo, was originally scheduled to run from 14-19 July, the recent circumstances stemming from the ongoing pandemic have forced the organisers to postpone the gathering to new dates, 25-30 August, in the hope that the situation will drastically improve. The gathering will be held entirely in open-air venues.

This postponement will not affect PriFORUM, the key event for the Kosovar film industry, which will run on its original dates, from 17-19 July, entirely online. The PriFORUM, which is also being organised for the 12th consecutive year alongside PriFest, is inviting 12 regional projects – which, apart from Kosovo, hail from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey, and which are all in the pre-production phase – to participate in the Best Pitch Competition. The participating teams will be eligible to win the Audio Postproduction Award, which comes with 15 days of foley services by Macedonian company Audio Haus, and the Postproduction Award, which includes colour-grading services by Kosovar company My Country Production.

The project teams will benefit from various training and networking events, which include a session on pitching with experts Claudia Landsberger and Jana Wolff, and specialised one-on-one coaching sessions on financing and co-production strategies by EAVE expert Linda Beath. After their pitching session, the teams will be able to arrange meetings with sales agents and distributors from Europe during the fifth edition of Prishtina Rendezvous.

Furthermore, a series of panel discussions are being organised, starting with Linda Beath, who will deal with the impact of the coronavirus on the film industry. Furthermore, producer Danijel Hocevar, Berlinale and EFM representative Jana Wolff, CEO of Gjirafa Kosovo Mergim Cahani, director of the Kosovo Cinematography Center Arben Zharku, and artistic director of PriFest and filmmaker Fatos Berisha will take part and share their wealth of experience. Also, Wendy Bernfeld, founder and MD of Rights Stuff, will present the webinar “Surfing the Digital Waves”, which will deal with the digital options for independent distribution beyond the big players. Finally, a discussion with Slovenian producer Danijel Hocevar is being organised in order to lift the lid on the new rules for production in the region and how everything has been affected by the pandemic.
