, in Competition at the 70th Berlinale, is Rai Com’s star attraction at the European Film Market, which opens on 20 February. Directed by Giorgio Diritti, the film is is a biopic focusing on Antonio Ligabue, one of the biggest Italian painters of the 20th century, and is the fourth feature by the sixty-something Bologna-born director, who first revealed his talent in 2005 with The Wind Blows Round [+lire aussi :

. Stepping into the shoes of the rejected artist who suffered from rickets and a goitre is Elio Germano, clearly in pursuit of further acknowledgement of his exceptional acting skills. This isn’t the first time that Germano has played an important figure in Italian culture: in 2014 he took on the role of Giacomo Leopardi in the namesake film Leopardi [+lire aussi :

. Joining Germano in the cast of Hidden Away are Pietro Traldi, Orietta Notari, Andrea Gherpelli, Oliver Johann Ewy (Ligabue as a teen) and Leonardo Carrozzo (Ligabue as a child). The film is produced by Palomar in collaboration with Rai Cinema and with the support of MiBACT and the Emilia Romagna Region, in association with Coop Alleanza 3.0, Demetra Formazione s.r.l. and Finregg s.p.a. The film will be distributed in Italian cinemas by 01 Distribution.

, a comedy which comes courtesy of Alberto Ferrari and stars the comic duo that is Luca Bizzarri and Paolo Kessisoglu, accompanied by Ricky Memphis, Daniele Liotti and Filipa Pinto. Four forty-something friends are called to Lisbon for the funeral of Amalia, the woman whom all four of them had loved as Erasmus students in Portugal. During their stay, they receive a piece of news which turns their lives upside-down. Amalia has left an unexpected legacy: a son conceived with one of them. But who is the father? The film is produced and distributed by Eagle Pictures.

Jostling amongst the other titles en route to the Berlin market with Rai Com and looking to attract the attention of international buyers is Volare [+lire aussi :

, Gabriele Salvatores’ work which was presented out of competition at last year’s Venice Film Festival, which won a Special Mention at the Bastia Italian Film Festival and which bagged itself audience awards from both the Ajaccio and the Madrid Italian Film Festival. Another biopic, which is still in postproduction, is The Bad Poet, Gianluca Jodic’s first work which sees Sergio Castellitto taking on the role of poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. Produced by Ascent Film, bathysphere and Rai Cinema, with the support of MiBACT and the Lazio Region.
