Written by Santiago Díaz, Voices signifies the feature film debut for Andalusian director Ángel Gómez, who received global acclaim for his short film Behind and whose film of the same name will be produced by Sam Raimi and Lionsgate. Having dealt with a divorced mother’s fear of losing her child, he now ventures into a classic horror story based on a family and the suggestive power of spirit voices: it will be “a claustrophobic and deeply disturbing film”, according to its makers. Its cast includes Miquel Fernández, Ramón Barea, Ana Fernández, Belén Fabra, Macarena Gómez (who starred in Behind) and the young Lucas Blas.

The synopsis provided by its production companies claims that Daniel and Sara have been through the worst experience of their lives: the death of their only son, Eric. One night, Daniel sends a voice message to his wife. “Daniel, is there anyone there with you?”, she asks. “No, I’m alone”, he replies. Sara responds, “There’s a voice in your message… and I think it’s Eric’s”.

Ángel Gómez is an Audio-Visual Production Technician, a graduate in acting and directing, and in Film Directing and Screenplay from the Centre of Studies at Ciudad de la Luz film studio. Director of several short films, screenwriter, script consultant and film lecturer, Ángel Gómez has won more than 170 international awards and received over 700 nominations and selections around the world. In addition, ha has worked for many years as a lecturer in the film industry and is cofounder/codirector of his own film and acting school in Madrid: Estudio V. He has more than eight years of experience working in the advertising sector, having directed adverts for the Ministry of Equality of the Spanish Government, the Community of Madrid, Atlético Madrid Football Club, Mediaset, Club Estudiantes basketball team and Aena Airports, among others.

Voices is a production by Voces Films AIE, Feelgood Media, Estudio V, Kowalski Films and LaNube Películas, which enjoys the participation of Televisión Española. Its international rights have been acquired by Film Factory, it has the support of the Ministry of Culture –ICAA– and will be distributed in Spanish cinemas by Entertainment One, which plans to release the film on 24 of July 2020.
