As Cineuropa reported just a few days ago (read more here) the 16th CIIF Market (Canary Islands International Film Market) is due to take place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife between 8 and 12 October. From the hundred or so applications submitted, 17 film projects and seven literary works have been selected to take part in a range of production-oriented activities hosted by the balmy Canarian island. Among them are five European film projects currently in development: El año de la memoria sucia, by Reverso Films; Época de silencio, by La Dalia Films; Las mil vidas, by Meridional Producciones; Pobre diablo, by Los Hermanos Polo & Japónica Films (all from Spain); and Asesinato en bajamar, by Teleaut Produzioni (Italy).

The Focus Canarias section will see five films homegrown in the Canary Islands come to market: Gliese (Kikazaru Films), Holocausto Vampiro 2 (El Hombre Invisible Films), Imperceptibles (Glow Films Entertainment), Mi giro copernicano (JR Producciones) and 2024: Segunda Edad Media (Ikarus Media).

The seven remaining projects are all Latin American in origin: Desconectados, by UN3TV (Argentina); El Predicador, by Pensilvania Films (Argentina); El perro en el año del perro, by Abubaya Producciones (Bolivia); Hijo de tigre, by Los Notarios (Colombia); Mi nombre es Casablanca, by M Films Producciones (Mexico); Schafer se busca, by Grita medios (Chile); and Toque de queda, by Alquette Producciones & FM (Peru).

Meanwhile, seven works of literature have been picked out as showing the greatest potential for film or TV adaptation: En busca del tesoro de Kola, written by Edna López; En la línea azul, by Luis García Rebollo; La casa del pánico, by Carlos Guillermo Domínguez; La indiana, by Jorge Hernández; La tienda de los cuentos de hadas, by Sarah Maher; Los pecados de la baronesa, by Texy Cruz; and Negro Juan, by Francisco Estupiñán.

All those who take part in this international event will have the opportunity to pitch their projects at dedicated sessions and enjoy a packed schedule of meetings with potential investors, TV networks, distributors and sales agents, including the likes of the Tenerife Film Commission, Clúster Audiovisual de Canarias, Macaronesia Films, Filmarket Hub, Music Library & SFX, Scenic Rights, Danidog Films, Imval Producciones, El Viaje Films, Volcano Films, Zeta Studios, Televisión Pública de Canarias (RTVC), Canary Islands Connection, Filmax and Latido Films.
