Ten feature films will compete this year in the Platform section of the 44^th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) (5-15 September). In its fifth edition, Platform embraces films by both established and emerging filmmakers that explore a wide variety of themes and genres.

Platform Co-Curator Andréa Picard mentioned: “Whether they are debuts or mid-career works, these films push the boundaries of narrative filmmaking in surprising and rigorous ways, some using documentary or experimental techniques in their approaches. Audiences will recognize similar themes emerge like a global collective subconscious, but what is truly exciting is the varied means of cinematic expression on display.”

fiche film] will close the section with its international premiere. The film adaptation of the eponymous Jack London novel follows a sailor, played by Luca Marinelli, who wants to become a writer.

fiche film]. The drama follows an astronaut and mother, played by Eva Green, who has to face an important decision; Lars Eidinger, Matt Dillon, and Sandra Hüller also star.

A three-person jury — comprised this year of the Berlinale’s artistic director Carlo Chatrian, film critic Jessica Kiang, and filmmaker Athina Rachel Tsangari — will pick the winner of the Toronto Platform Prize, an award of CAD$ 20,000 (€13.500).
