The tenth edition of the Al Este Central and European Film Festival, which unspooled over the past week in Lima, Peru, drew to a close on Saturday with a gala ceremony at which the Russian-Estonian-French co-production The Man Who Surprised Everyone [+lire aussi :

In the Documentary Competition, the Jury Prize was bestowed upon Mari Gulbiani’s Before Father Gets Back [+lire aussi :

, which tells the story of two Georgian girls who discover the magic of film in a remote town. Two further titles were each singled out with a Special Mention in this competitive section: Chris the Swiss [+lire aussi :

by Raúl de la Fuente and Damian Nenow, two works that use animation to portray the realities of different military conflicts through their charismatic protagonists.

The winners’ list is rounded off by the Argentinian film Julia y el zorro by Inés María Barrionuevo, which came out on top in the AlEste Mundo section. Other trophies went to a number of Peruvian short films taking part in the Made in Peru and ExperimentAlEste sections. In the former, Leche para Dos by Diego Bedoya emerged victorious, while in the latter, Isaac Ruíz’s No, no me acuerdo scooped the top prize, and Nicole Remy’s Detenerte en el pulso and Diego Zagarra’s Asimetría were singled out with Honorary Mentions.
