The Best Years is the story of four friends - Giulio (Pierfrancesco Favino), Gemma (Micaela Ramazzotti), Paolo (Kim Rossi Stuart) and Riccardo (Claudio Santamaria) - told over the course of forty years, from 1980 to the present day and from adolescence to adulthood. Their hopes, their delusions, their failures and their successes intertwine to tell a great tale of friendship and love, which is also the tale of the Italian nation and its people. It’s a huge fresco in typical Muccino style which, as explained in the production memo, “tells the tale of who we are, where we come from, where we are heading and the type of people our children will be. It represents the great circle of life whose dynamics remain constant, despite the film spanning many years and different time periods”.

Scripted by Gabriele Muccino himself alongside Paolo Costella, IThe Best Years is produced by Lotus Production – a company belonging to the Leone Film Group – in league with RAI Cinema and in association with 3 Marys Entertainment. The film is sold internationally by Elle Driver and will be released in Italian cinemas on 13 February 2020 by 01 Distribution. The score will come courtesy of the musical maestro Nicola Piovani.
