Truth and Justice is an epic story about two rival, neighbouring landholders: the upright Andres (Priit Loog), who tries to obey the law and live by the book of God, and spiteful trickster Pearu (Priit Võigemast), who has his own notion of right and wrong, and who is seemingly placed in Andres’ life to test his patience and integrity. The film is an adaptation of the 1926 book by Anton Hansen Tammsaare, often cited as the most important Estonian literary work.

It is the feature debut by young filmmaker Tanel Toom, who attracted international attention earlier, in 2010, when his short film The Confession won the Student Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, and who was subsequently nominated for the Academy Award for Best Live-action Short Film. “The domestic reception of Truth and Justice has been overwhelmingly positive, and as the story is universal and has the potential to travel, we’re currently about to start looking for a strong international sales rep,” says producer Ivo Felt

Truth and Justice is the final film to be released, financed and produced under the Estonia 100 banner. With its €2.5 million budget, it is the most expensive film production ever to be financed only with local money. The movie, produced by Allfilm, is still showing in cinemas all across Estonia.
