It’s a wrap for the 2019 edition of the Dublin International Film Festival, one of the Republic of Ireland’s most prestigious film events. The festival, held from 20 February-3 March, was sponsored by Virgin Media this year. The award winners, chosen by jury members from the Dublin Film Critics’ Circle, were announced last night.

The 2019 edition saw the triumph of Christian Peztold’s German-French co-production Transit [+lire aussi :

, which was in the running for the Golden Bear last year. The picture, based on Anna Seghers’ 1942 novel of the same name, was crowned Best Film in Competition. Indian filmmaker Rima Das, the helmer of the successful drama Bulbul Can Sing, was the recipient of the Award for Best Director, while Neil Jordan’s psychological thriller Greta [+lire aussi :

 won the Award for Best Irish Film.

Finally, the recipient of this year's Volta Award was Ralph Fiennes, who visited the festival this weekend to present his new film, The White Crow [+lire aussi :

, which he both directed and starred in. The accolade, named after Ireland’s first-ever dedicated cinema and established back in 2007, is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the world of film. Past recipients include Kenneth Branagh, Paolo Sorrentino, Terry Gilliam, Tim Roth, Ennio Morricone and Costa-Gavras.
