The Munich Film Festival (28 June-7 July) came to an end this weekend by announcing this year's winners. Besides the CineMerit Awards that went to Emma Thompson and Terry Gilliam, another prominent figure, Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda, was saluted for his latest opus, presented in the CineMasters Competition: the Cannes-winning Shoplifters. fiche film] (winner of the latest Un Certain Regard Award), was presented with the €15,000 CineVision Award and lauded for the "deep humanity" of its goal to "disturb us in the comfort of our certainties and norms and convictions". Hsin-Yao Huang's The Great Buddha + (Taiwan) snagged a Special Mention.

The German Cinema New Talent Awards, which go to the best newcomers in the main New German Cinema section in the categories of director, producer, screenwriter and actor/actress, come with a total of €70,000 in prize money. fiche film], a strong, courageous film on rape and denial, which also earned her main actress Aenne Schwarz the Best Acting Award and won over the FIPRESCI jury. The Best Producer Award went to Anna de Paoli for Linus de Paoli's A Young Man With High Potential [+lire aussi :

The One-Future-Prize, presented since 1986 to a film that shows, ethically as well as aesthetically, that our world has one common future, was won by Roya Sadat's A Letter to the President, which was the Afghan entry for the latest Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film.
