Young director Cecilie McNair is working on her debut feature, a psychological drama about childlessness entitled Baby Pyramid. A graduate of alternative Danish film school Super 18, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Film Studies from the University of Copenhagen. In 2019, she won the Young Directors Award for the best student film at the Cannes Film Festival thanks to her short Petit a. She also directed the Danish youth series The Night Before Saturday for Danish pubcaster DR.

The film, which entered production last week, follows a young fertility doctor called Hannah, who is struggling to get pregnant. But how far is she willing to go to make her greatest wish come true? According to the official website of the Danish Film Institute, which first reported the news, with this film, the director “seeks to portray the ugly feelings of injustice that come from involuntary childlessness, and questions whether it is a human right to have children”.

The leading role is played by Serbian-Danish actress Danica Curcic, recently seen in the TV series Equinox and in Hans Petter Moland’s drama flick Out Stealing Horses [+lee también:

. The feature took part in the Discovery section of this year’s Nordic Film Market organised by the Göteborg Film Festival, wherein eight film projects in development are presented, mainly directed by first-time filmmakers.

Baby Pyramid is being produced by Matilda Appelin and René Ezra for Denmark’s Nordisk Film Production in collaboration with DR and with support from the Danish Film Institute’s New Danish Screen talent scheme. It is scheduled to premiere next year.
