A driving force in the field of international co-production, the Sunny Side of the Doc pitching sessions will once again unfold online this year during the 32nd edition of the international documentary and narrative experiences market, which is scheduled for 21 to 24 June.

The 42 selected projects hailing from 18 different countries (including Germany, Belgium, Spain, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland, Portugal and the UK) will be pitched across six thematic sessions and will also form the focus of individual professional meetings. It’s worth noting that 72% of the chosen projects are directed or produced by a woman and, in harmony with its #StorytellingMatters editorial line, the Sunny Side of the Doc team has prioritised stories which shake up our world, shatter our convictions and incite us to seek out solutions for the future. Furthermore, as stressed by the Market’s director of strategy and development Mathieu Béjot, "more geopolitically-focused subjects, with a marked emphasis on Asia, will also be put forward by various international producers, proving that the challenges faced by our societies today extend far beyond national borders." The team’s commitment to showcasing new outlooks goes hand in hand with its support for greater diversity and inclusion on screen, but also within the wider industry, as exemplified by the creation of the New Voices award in partnership with Netflix.

The 5th edition of PiXii (the International Festival of Digital Cultures), meanwhile, will unfold in hybrid form: the networking event for professionals from creative and cultural industries active in the field of XR will take place online (revolving around a selection of seven films and a series of podcasts/vodcasts which will be accessible via a video library, available from 7 to 30 June), while nine immersive experiences are set to be showcased in La Rochelle, in person, between 19 and 24 June.

Sunny Side of the Doc 2021’s digital platform is scheduled to go live on 7 June so as to allow accredited professionals to organise meetings in anticipation of the international market and the PiXii Festival.
