Despite the limitations set by the pandemic, the 18th edition of Locarno Pro’s Open Doors platform (6-11 August) has concluded its online version by announcing the winners for the Hub co-production platform and of its Lab producer training workshop. This was the second edition of the three-year focus on South-East Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam) and Mongolia, which will conclude during the 2021 edition. The awards ceremony was held on the festival's website and was broadcasted on YouTube.

In the Open Doors Hub, eight projects, represented by a director and one attached producer, introduced themselves to European and international professionals. The jury has awarded the following projects to support their development and production.

The Open Doors Grant, totalling CHF 64,000 (€59,500), co-financed by the Swiss film production support fund Visions Sud Est – with the backing of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) – and the City of Bellinzona, is being distributed among three projects. The production support of CHF 40,000 (€37,200) goes to Ze by Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir (Mongolia/France), while Purev-Ochir also won the screenwriters’ residency Moulin d’Andé-CECI Award to further develop her upcoming feature film project. The two development support grants valued at CHF 14,000 (€13,000) each go to Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah Vs The Amazonistas of Planet X by Avid Liongoren (Philippines/France) and Inside The Yellow Cocoon Shell [+lee también:

Finally, the ARTE Kino International Prize, worth €6,000, was delivered to Oasis of Now by Chee Sum Chia (Malaysia) while the Norwegian South Film Fund’s Sørfond Award, which allows the project to take part in its “Pitching from the South” event, went to This City is a Battlefield by Mouly Surya (Indonesia/Singapore/Philippines).

In the initiative’s training workshop the Open Doors Lab, in which nine creative producers participated, the Rotterdam Lab Award — which allows the winner to participate in the Rotterdam Lab workshop together with a delegation of producers in January 2021 — was given to Uran Sainbileg (IFI Production, Mongolia).
