Polish writer-director Tomasz Jurkiewicz already has a lengthy career involving 15 fiction and documentary short films behind him. These titles have been screened and won more than 100 prizes both at national festivals, including Kraków, Gdynia and Koszalin, and internationally (Karlovy Vary, Seoul and Espinho). The story, which is set during the summer holidays, follows the rebellious Agata, who arrives in a small town to work as a cook at a religious camp. Fascinated by her, a young man called Mirek makes a bet that he can seduce Agata. At the same time, his grandfather, who suffers from dementia, recognises her as his long-lost lover. Mirek will use his grandfather to get closer to Agata, but as they explore their relationship further, they will lift the lid on a carefully guarded family secret.

The screenplay was written by the director and Piotr Janusz. For the leading roles, Agata is portrayed by Polish actress Sandra Drzymalska (Sole [+lee también:

One of the producers, Magdalena Sztorc, of Warsaw-based company Before My Eyes, shared her experience: “Everyone Has a Summer was produced within the Polish Film Institute’s micro-budget scheme designed to support first-time directors. Thanks to this funding, the director, Tomasz Jurkiewicz, had the chance to make his feature debut, and we, as the company Before My Eyes, were able to produce our second movie. Making a micro-budget film is a huge challenge, both for the producer and for the director. According to the ‘micro-budget scheme’ rules, we couldn’t get any additional co-producers on board, apart from Polish Television, nor could we exceed the total budget of €175,000, which was set in stone for all seven projects funded as part of this scheme that same year.”

Everyone Has a Summer was shot in 20 days, entirely in the Southern Polish town of Trzebinia, which is also the director's hometown. Sztorc added: “It was crucial for the whole process to get a very experienced and smart line producer on board, so we got Alicja Kazimierczak (Marygoround [+lee también:

). It was also important for the production process that we shot in Trzebinia, a familiar place, where we already had many contacts and where we encountered a lot of enthusiasm from local people and companies, who wanted to become a part of the process.”

The film is currently in post-production, and the final sound mix is now being handled by Katarzyna Białas, while the music was written by Szymon Wysocki. According to Sztorc, it should be ready by the end of August, and the team will be aiming for a premiere by the end of this year or the beginning of 2021. She stressed: “It is a warm, sunlit dramedy that will be discovered by the audience soon.”

Everyone Has a Summer is a Polish production by Magdalena Sztorc and Przemysław Miękinia (Before My Eyes), with the support of the Polish Film Institute and Polish Television. Studio Coloroffon handled the colour grading and the visual effects, while rental company ATM System was a partner for the camera equipment.
